Description
Circa 1780.
A good mint example of the work of Joseph Hill. Branded below the button “Longman No. 26 Cheapside, London”.
The neck is particularly comfortable and will suit a violinist who also plays the viola. Although only 15″ this viola model makes up for its lack of volume by increased depth of the ribs. It has an even sound across the strings.
The back is of plain maple, ribs and scroll of similar wood. The front is two piece even grained pine. Transparent brown varnish is evenly applied. Simulated purfling.
Length of Back – 382mm / 15″
