Stock #: C3827 Simon Andrew Forster, 1835
A fine and interesting cello by Simon Andrew Forster. Two–piece back is of fine rippled maple, The ribs and pegbox are of similar wood and the front is made of two–piece fine and regular growth pine. It has typical red brown varnish with fine attractive Craquerelle and fairly full “English Amati” modelling with good arching. This cello is listed in ‘Sandys and Forster’ in the appendix of instruments made by the Forsters: Violoncellos of the first class…..number 18 (for) Sir Richard Bulkely Phillipps.
Sound: Open and free, when pushed will still offer more.
Condition: A few old repairs but presented in a good state
